FAMILY AND SYSTEMIC PSYCHOTHERAPIST (Newly qualified or qualifying 2024)
To provide a high-quality evidence based Systemic Psychotherapy service to children and adolescents with an eating disorder, their families, carers and professional networks. To provide highly specialised systemic assessment and therapy to patients with an eating disorder and their families (including FT-AN, FT-BN and NVR). The post holder will be part of a clinical team developing the provision of Multifamily Therapy for eating disorders across Birmingham.
We have launched our brand-new band 7-8a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist preceptorship programme, with a structured support and development plan to enable you to progress to Band 8a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist role on completion of the required competencies.

SPECIALIST IN FAMILY BASED TREATMENT FOR EATING DISORDERS
The post holder will have a leading role supporting recovery in by providing and supporting the provision of Family Based Treatment (FBT) to families of children and young people who present to the Specialist Eating Disorder Team in Birmingham. This will include providing the specialist Family Based Treatment for Eating Disorders including ARFID and having a specialist case load of families.
The treatment model will be based on “A treatment manual for Anorexia Nervosa a Family Based Approach 2001” by Lock, J and Le Grange. Known as “Family Based Treatment” (FBT),

- Highly specialist systemic assessment and intervention to children, young people, young adults and their families with eating disorders and mental health conditions
- Offering indirect clinical services such as advice and consultation to colleagues and other professionals.
- To hold a complex caseload providing specialist systemic interventions inclusive of parent groups to young people and their families with eating disorders. Primarily this will be FT-AN/FT-BN and/or Family Based Treatment (FBT), but will also involve other systemic models when appropriate.
- Involvement in service planning and development, this will include identifying needs and participating in the development plan process. Supporting the team leads in taking on senior level tasks as required, e.g. service development, cross service liaison, teaching/training, and service evaluation.
- Undertaking clinical supervision, and line management of junior colleagues and facilitation of client related work undertaken by other team members.
- Staff training and leading on systemic case discussion groups.
- Applied research and development related to the needs of the children and families served and the Family Therapy Department as a whole.
- Participation in the locality team operational policy, service planning and service review process at a level appropriate to the post-holder's grade and service responsibilities.

- Ability to work with a racially and culturally diverse community in a wide variety of contexts including highly specialist skills for working therapeutically in family homes
- Well developed skills to communicate effectively, orally and in writing at an age appropriate level (including use of play, drawing and metaphor, stories) complex, highly technical and /or clinically sensitive information to ch ildren, adolescents, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS including reports for the Courts
- Advanced video skills and the ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
- Skills in professional supervision to meet UKCP requirements; skills for offering live supervision of multi disciplinary colleagues.
- Skills in providing Systemic consultation to other professional and non professional groups.
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the AFT.

Qualifications

- Post-graduate qualification in relevant mental health/social welfare profession and demonstrable practice over a minimum of four Relevant professional Qualifications indicated by AFT Guidance or AFT recognized equivalence.
- The Maintenance of UKCP Registration by attendance on short or long training courses to meet CPD requirements
- Advanced skills in meeting the needs of children and young people with Eating Disorders within the context of their significant relationships
- Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialised areas of therapeutic practice e.g., NVR, FT AN, FT-BN, FBT.

- Masters/Diploma level qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy with at least 2 years post qualification experience.
- Training & Registration as Clinical Supervisor
- Training in teaching systemic psychotherapy
Knowledge & Nature of Experience

- Experience of working with families in a mental health setting.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for systemic care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
- Sufficient knowledge of ot her modalities to engage appropriately with colleagues and their work with clients
