Job overview
The post holder is responsible for working in an interdisciplinary manner to provide effective care for children/adolescents with Craniofacial conditions and Neurosurgical conditions through the role of expert practitioner, role model and patient/parent advocate. Provide specialist knowledge to statutory and charitable organisations locally and nationally.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist clinical nursing expertise to support the delivery of safe and effective treatment
of care for babies, children and young people.
Plan and organise specialist nursing workload in accordance to agreed local protocols, or as directed by the Senior Nurse Specialists or Consultants.
Undertake specialist clinical assessments and clinical interventions that are aligned to agreed protocols for babies, children and young people with neurosurgical/craniofacial conditions.
Develop and implement programmes of care and provide specialised advice for babies, children, young people and families.
Within agreed protocols - analyse complex facts, situations or investigation results and then take appropriate clinical decisions.
Work in collaboration with the Consultant and Registrar teams regarding highly complex patient management treatment planning and decision making.

Qualifications and Registrations
Essential criteria
- RSCN/RN Child Branch
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience within a relevant pediatric sub-specialty within Neurosciences
- Mentorship Course/SLAIP/Silver Assessors Course
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate neuroscience specialist training or qualification
- Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Course
Knowledge & Nature of Experience
Essential criteria
- Current clinical skills within a relevant Paediatric setting
- Evidence of multidisciplinary team working
- Good understanding of the management of safeguarding children issues
- Extensive experience of delivering interventions to families within Neurosciences
- Ability to recognise the seriously ill children, and take appropriate escalation actions
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of audit or research projects
Analytical and judgement skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to make autonomous clinical decisions with prescribed professional boundaries
- Demonstrate excellent clinical competence in the care of paediatric neurosurgical/craniofacial patients.
- Evidence of managing specialised data collection and associated IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate an awareness of local and national performance targets concerning patients.
