Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and experienced maternity support workers who can work flexibly within shift patterns to join our maternity team. We currently have positions available on our Postnatal Ward, Delivery Suite and Community settings.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English Grades A-C, Levels 4-9, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent
  • Level 3 qualification in Health care
  • Commitment to undertake in house training with successful completion within 1 year of appointment
  • Care certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Foundation Degree Maternity Pathway

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with members of the public
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • IT / computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • Formal maternity care experience in a hospital/birth centre

Other Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Positive attitude to training and development
  • Ability to work 24-hour shift pattern, including weekends and bank holidays
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of team and to liaise with colleagues in other disciplines
