We are seeking a Band 7/ 8a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist to join our multi-disciplinary and dynamic Community locality team. We welcome newly qualified and/ or qualifying this year.
We have launched our brand-new band 7-8a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist preceptorship programme, with a structured support and development plan to enable you to progress to Band 8a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist role on completion of the required competencies.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be joining a core community multi-disciplinary team within Forward Thinking Birmingham, which delivers mental health provision to children, young people, and young adults aged 0-25 and their families. Specialist services that wrap around the Core teams include Eating Disorders, Learning Disabilities, Early Intervention of Psychosis, Neurodevelopment and Personality Disorder and Complex Trauma.
The teams provide assessment, intervention and evidence based therapeutic treatment for a wide range of complex referrals and mental health presentations and associated relationship difficulties.
The main purpose of this role is to provide a highly specialist Systemic Psychotherapy service to a defined population, working within a framework of personal objectives, via membership of the designated service area. This service will be provided in an autonomous manner in accordance with any service agreements developed by the Family Therapy Department and based upon highly developed specialist knowledge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Specialist systemic assessment and intervention to children, young people, young adults and their families with eating disorders and mental health conditions as well as offering indirect clinical services such as advice and consultation to colleagues and other professionals.
· Involvement in service planning and development, this will include identifying needs and participating in the development plan process.
· Staff support and supervision, and facilitation of client related work undertaken by other team members.
· Staff training.
· Applied research and development related to the needs of the children and families served and the Family Therapy Department as a whole.
· Participation in Clinical Governance activities including Continuing Professional Development.
· Participation in the locality team operational policy, service planning and service review process at a level appropriate to the post-holder's grade and service responsibilities.
· Subject to negotiation, the post-holder will be able to develop and pursue a special clinical interest of relevance to the locality or the Trust as a whole.
· Where required to make contributions to the 4-year Systemic Training Programme which is academically validated by the University of Birmingham and professionally accredited by the Association for Family Therapy.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Masters/Diploma level qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy or AFT accredited equivalent.
- Post-graduate qualification in relevant mental health/social welfare profession and demonstrable practice over a minimum of four
- Eligible for UKCP Registration
Desirable criteria
- Training in other relevant therapeutic modalities.
Knowledge & Nature of Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum four years practice in relevant first profession
- Experience of working with children, young people and their families.
- Experience of working in a mental health setting.
- Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse.
- Experience of working with different clients and age groups.
- Experience of risk assessment and risk management
- Knowledge of and skill in using a wide variety of systemic theories and evidence-based interventions and the ability to use these appropriately in relation to client need and work setting.
- Sufficient knowledge of other modalities to engage appropriately with colleagues and their work with clients.
- Knowledge of child development/ mental health issues

- Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behavior.
