An opportunity has arisen for a Practitioner Psychologist to lead our newly formed Haematology Psychology Services, initially providing psychological input into our Haemophilia, Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), and CAR-T cell therapy services. The service is based within the Centre for Clinical Haematology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as part of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust, serving a large and diverse population. 

You would be leading a small team alongside a band 8A psychological practitioner, with a significant emphasis in the early part of the role on developing and embedding this new service. 

The applicant will ideally have experience of haematological conditions, but our principal aim is to recruit a psychologist with the right skills to develop a gold-standard service for patients and relatives across the whole pathway. There will be ample opportunity to offer direct psychological interventions, whilst embedding a service that is integrated into existing MDT process.

There is also the exciting opportunity to collaborate and network with other psychologists working in similar services nationally.

 You will need to be able to demonstrate a highly developed understanding of the psychological impact of haematological conditions and how pre-existing vulnerabilities may impact upon the impact of such physical health difficulties, as well as being able to adapt your psychological interventions accordingly. With patients often being under the care of haematology services for life, specific consideration will need to be given to how to tailor psychology input accordingly, along with the ability to work flexibly across outpatient and inpatient settings.

You will have experience in working with patients with physical health conditions. You will be working closely with doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to provide high quality care, and you will need strong skills in consultation, supervision and teaching as part of our multidisciplinary teamwork.

This role will require face-to-face work, as well as skills in being able to deliver psychological assessment, interventions and teaching in a variety of formats, including via the telephone and video link.

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your first week with us.

If applicable to your role, the Trust will require you to sign up for the DBS Update Service. The subscription will cost you £13 a year but the Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.
