Job overview

Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Community Perinatal Mental Health

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the Specialist Perinatal Community Mental Health Service. We are looking to appoint a practitioner (full and part time vacancies available) to work within the Perinatal Team West, who is a qualified nurse prescriber.

The service offers support and treatment to women experiencing moderate to severe mental illness during the perinatal period (through pregnancy and up to 12 months post-natal) and continues to develop following the national investment and ambitions of the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health and the NHS Long Term Plan.

The post holders will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering care to women in a range of community settings. Other members of the team include Consultant Psychiatrists, Team Manager, Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologist, Mental Health Practitioners, Occupational Therapist, Nursery Nurses and Peer Support Workers. The ability to work flexibly in multidisciplinary teams and in a range of settings is therefore essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will, in conjunction with the team manager and clinical lead, provide strong clinical leadership and expertise to the multidisciplinary team, ensuring that high standards are maintained.

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will hold a caseload and will manage regular follow up and assessment clinics. They will work closely with the medical team to ensure effective patient flow and discharge management is maintained.

The post holder, along with the team manager, clinical lead and senior medical colleagues, will be responsible for building strong links with primary care colleagues and secondary care services ensuring that effective pathways are in place. An element of the role will also include providing training relating to perinatal mental health for other disciplines.

The Service operates Monday-Friday; 9.00am-5.00pm. The Perinatal Team West are based in Winson Green, Birmingham. The post advertised is 37.5 hours per week.

Applicants must be highly motivated, have a genuine interest in perinatal mental health and have experience in mental health care. Experience of working within perinatal mental health is not a requirement as specialist training will be provided. If you are looking for a new challenge with a new and developing service, have the requirements for the role and are interested in this post, then we would welcome your application.
