Are you a highly specialist  SLT with a special interest and passion for supporting colleagues to develop?

Are you passionate about the latest development and research in SLT  and promoting and sharing good practice with SLT colleagues and partners.

Have you got experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-agency team in clinical and education settings?

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Band 7  Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and forward thinking community team, acting as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist supporting training needs for 1 day per week and holding a clinical caseload for the remaining sessions.

 We have a large number of Newly qualified SLTs and provide placements for many students and so  need a dedicated member of the team to oversee, supervise and support their ongoing training needs.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To contribute to the identification of professional development and training needs of Speech and Language Therapy team members and ensure appropriate training is delivered across the service

To ensure successful and effective delivery of clinical education to students and apprentices and the supervision and preceptorship of Newly Qualified Practitioners (NQPs)

To maintain, develop and promote excellence in clinical practice within the specialist area of the service, with reference to current research and evidence-based practice, contributing to safe effective practice in the specialist clinical area 

To provide Speech and Language Therapy at a highly specialist level, functioning in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children and young people known to the service.

  • A growing SEND locality therapy agenda to integrate education and Local Authority and Early years partners, supporting a graduated approach to helping children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Just completed our first year in delivering a Balanced System approach to support children with SLCN; working in partnership with families, the Local Authority and a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experienced team committed to taking NQPs through preceptor-ship & a culture of ongoing learning and clinical supervision

  • Keep abreast of the national training agenda including AHP workforce, Apprenticeship programmes and RCSLT developments to inform training plans and development. 
  • Develop close working links with Professional Education and development, Health Education England (HEE) Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and RCSLT 
  • Carry out specialist assessments. Developing and implementing a range of programmes of care and treatment to meet the needs of the clients, families and their environments in accordance with agreed pathways 
  • Using specialist knowledge to inform clinical judgments and decision making for highly complex cases including decisions to discharge
  • Providing appropriate treatment based on best practice, adapted to client’s needs and priorities including advising other professionals and parent on the appropriate type and level of support needed to develop skills in the home / school environment.
  • Working closely with the Professional Lead and Clinical Service Managers to address clinical issues and process matters related to the specialist area and identify opportunities for service transformation and innovation. 
  • Contributing to the measurement of outcomes, evaluation and audit within the service 
  • Linking in with regional & national colleagues via networks to benchmark best practice, build professional networks and bring practice back to the service to contribute to service planning within the specialist are

Qualifications

  • First degree level qualification, relevant to service area
  • HCPC Licence to practice
  • Evidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
  • Full Membership of Professional body, relevant to service area
  • Relevant training in specialist area Relevant training in clinical leadership / clinical education

Skills and Knowledge

  • Competent in using electronic systems relevant to practice in the Trust and in the clinical area

Experience

  • Significant experience of diagnostic assessment and intervention
  • Extensive experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in a range of multi-disciplinary and / or multi-agency teams in Local Authority and Health settings
  • Extensive experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with a range of developmental disorders and delays
  • Significant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes
  • Relevant experience of using leadership skills for service development
  • Significant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals
  • Extensive experience of providing complex written and verbal information to others to a high standard
  • Significant experience of delivering successful/effective training to a range of qualified professionals in the area of specialism
