Job overview

 We are looking for a Nutritionist or Dietitian to join our Startwell Team. Startwell is an obesity prevention programme for Early Years settings in Birmingham. It includes food and physical activity and is based around 8 key messages to help Early Years settings, parents and health professionals create a healthier environment for our children and families. Startwell is an award process with set criteria that settings have to meet to gain the award.

Main duties of the job

Startwell is a community based programme that works across the city. The team has a variety of job roles including Physical Activity and Early Years staff. This allows for shared learning and experiences within the team. The post holder will be allocated their own case load of Early Years settings to support and work through the Startwell Award. They will also deliver Startwell and nutrition training to Early Years professionals at centralised training.

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Qualifications / training - Degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics
  • Qualifications / training -Evidence of continuous professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating projects
  • Significant experience of working with parents & professionals and children under five on nutrition & maternal nutrition
  • Experience of writing training & running training packages for health professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of food preparation / cooking
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working

Skills/knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to plan and manage own time
  • Ability to generate written communication which is relevant, concise, accurate and legible
  • Understanding of nutrition within a community setting
  • Evidence of good verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of services for children under five in Birmingham
  • Ability to work with all agencies across voluntary, education, health & social services sectors
  • Ability to run & critically evaluate training sessions with people from a range of backgrounds
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of diversity and how it impacts on eating habits and practices
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up-to-date, evidence based, clinical trends and practices
  • Knowledge of nutrition priorities for children under five
  • An ability to demonstrate individual and team responsibility in respect of health and safety
