Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic applicants wanting to start their finance career and join the Birmingham Community HealthCare Foundation NHS Trust.

The Finance Assistant role is a training post for 12 months, who will be gaining a broad range of finance experience working in the Management Accounting Team. On completion of a successful training period there will be opportunities to join our trust bank to work with other projects within the Finance Team. This is the ideal position within a Team which has an enviable culture, a clear focus on putting the patient at the centre of everything we do as well as providing the opportunities for career progression and development.

To be eligible for this role you must be a student who are currently studying accounting or economics degree as part of a sandwich year or post degree students looking for a practice year. Prioritisation will be given to candidates studying at a Midlands-based University or who are permanent residents within the area.

Our aim by the end of the assignment to have provided students with work experience and knowledge that will create a good platform to start your finance career. This position will be based on site for two days of the week and three days to be worked away from the office.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve providing financial management advice and budgetary support and working closely and reporting directly to the Directorate Accountant (DA). Responsibility for the preparation of monthly budgetary control reports, analysis and reporting of variances to budget holders is key and the post holder will be required to meet with budget managers on a regular basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated, professional individual who thrives on a challenge. The ability to work in a team, meet deadlines and have good communication skills is paramount for this role. Experience of MS Office packages and working with computerised ledger systems is also required for this role.
