We looking are to recruit a highly motivated and creative Communications Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating content for our website , assisting with recruitment awareness, divisional branding, leaflets, banners, and promotional campaigns.

This is a hybrid working post, with an expectation to work part of the week in the office.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is an integral member of the Division’s Performance team, working to utilise and implement web-based and digital communications activities to deliver divisional objectives and key messages. The role is to initiate and implement relevant web-based and digital activities to increase awareness of identified topics and build, maintain and protect the organisation’s reputation (working in co-ordination with other non-digital communications activities). Tasks include web and digital channel management and administration; content management and creation; channel development, and evaluating effectiveness and audience interaction.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Ensure the Division communicates effectively and efficiently via digital communications with its stakeholder audiences.
  2. Take the lead in ensuring digital communications tools effectively support the wider internal and external communications objectives and activities.
  3. Lead on divisional wide communications, inclusive of weekly team talks.
  4. Work closely with the external and internal communications managers to devise and implement digital communications solutions for the Trust and Team’s needs.
  5. Proactively identify and pursue opportunities to promote the work, vision and values of the organisation via current and emerging digital opportunities.
  6. Day-to-day management of the Divisions digital channels (including e-newsletters, web-based content and social media), including editorial and administration management.
  7. Evaluate effectiveness of the Divisions web and digital communications activities, including measurement of audience reach and interaction.
  8. Work closely with the Trust’s Digital Technology Services Team on technical and administrative aspects.
  9. Day-to-day liaison with the suppliers of digital communications services.
  10. Work with recruitment officer to ensure promotion of jobs is published on the right channels such as the guardian, and support with recruitment days publicising them and communicating with wider audiences.
  11. Provide a lead in the development, evolution and application of digital communications, including input to and implementation of related policies.
  12. Provide digital communications knowledge, advice and support to all parts of the organisation, including devising and updating policies and protocols.
  13. Undertake audits and/ or research and development, relating to work undertaken and current trends.
  14. Research and produce communications and marketing material which promotes the organisation and its key messages including preparing information for staff, public and media, in conjunction with other members of the team.  Research will involve direct contact with patients, public, colleagues and other external stakeholders.
  15. The post-holder will sometimes be communicating complex/ sensitive/ contentious information on matters relating to Trust reputation, patient information, for partner organisations and influencers.
  16. The postholder will sometimes be presenting complex, sensitive or contentious information to large groups of staff or members of the public.
  17. The postholder will need to use analysis and judgment in deciding what to publish and how to present information (written and visual).
  18. The postholder will plan and organise online and digital presentation of information; scheduling of information; channel launches and updates.
  19. Promote and protect the organisation’s brand within digital communications.
  20. Ensure co-ordination of digital communications with all other channels of external and internal communications.
  21. Work across the full range of communications activities in liaison with the other members of the Communications Team.
  22. Have an overview of design and print technology, web and emergent technologies.
  23. Regularly use a range of computer software, including Trust-wide applications and also communications-specific tools.
  24. Line manage junior staff where appropriate.

Person specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree in relevant subject area (e.g. Communications, marketing, arts, humanities) or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience working with web and digital channels within Corporate Communications.
  • Ability to demonstrate keen interest in the field of web and digital communication.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear understanding of communications work and the context within which it operates.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working across Departments/ organisations to deliver projects and plans.
  • Experience of working with senior managers and leaders.

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Competent in advising on effective use of web and digital channels to communicate with target audiences.
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in web and digital communications.
  • Competent in researching and writing materials for use in web and digital Corporate Communications channels.
  • Competent in working within web/ digital content management systems.
  • Competent in liaising with external and internal suppliers of technical IT aspects of web and digital infrastructure.
Desirable criteria
  • Competent in working across multiple teams and projects.
  • Knowledge of visual communications techniques, i.e. photography, video.
