We are seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious Dentist to join the Community Paediatric and Special Care Dentistry Teams in Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
This is a Consultant lead specialist service providing high quality community based dentistry to anxious children and children with special needs, in multiple sites across Birmingham, Sandwell, Walsall and Dudley. The service also provides mobile dental services at selected schools. Dentists maybe required to drive these vehicles as part of service delivery; training would be provided, as required.
The successful candidate will also be required to provide inhalation sedation services; it will be a requirement of this post to complete the necessary qualification, if not already held, and appropriate support will be given to achieve this additional qualification.

To provide high quality dental treatment for adults and children with a wide range of high treatment needs including those who have special needs and are unable to access care in the General Dental Service
To carry out the full range of clinical procedures, including inhalation sedation.
The post holder will be required to move between community dental clinics and work in a mobile dental unit.

Qualifications

- Fully registered with General Dental Council (GDC).
- BDS or equivalent
- Vocational training or equivalent if UK graduate
- Evidence of continuing education undertaken regularly
- Eligible for the NHS Dental Performers List

- Additional qualification or training in paediatric dentistry
- Additional qualification or training in paediatric dentistry
Experience

- Some experience post qualification in treating children, adolescents and adults with disability, medical and mental health problems.
- Working on own initiative
- Some experience and interest in working with anxious children adolescents and adults.

- Previous Community Dental Service Experience
- Previous experience in paediatric dentistry
- Project work
- Previous GDS experience
- Competent in inhalation sedation
- Clinical audit/peer review
Skills and Knowledge

- Good knowledge and awareness of the role of a community dental officer
- Ability to empathise with patients with disability, medical and mental health conditions
- Ability to form effective working relationships with patients and manage expectations regarding service provision
- High quality clinical skills maintained through relevant CPD
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written & verbal)
- Reflective approach and able to learn from own experiences
- Basic IT skills including MS Office and clinical software (R4, SOE etc)
- Team worker
