Job overview

The postholder will work, as part of the communications team, to engage, create and maintain effective internal communications throughout Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC), in order to help deliver corporate objectives. The postholder will focus primarily around internal audiences and channels of internal communication, and also contribute to external channels and activities. This will include helping develop and implement appropriate internal communications channels, such as print and electronic newsletters, Intranet, face-to-face briefings, etc.

 

To ensure that staff throughout the organisation receive accurate and timely information about the health service and organisation developments.

Main duties of the job

  

  help ensure the organisation communicates effectively and efficiently with all its staff and internal partners in line with corporate objectives

-       seek to implement effective two-way staff communications, including development of feedback systems;

-      proactively identify and pursue opportunities to promote the work, vision and values of the organisation internally to all staff;

-      day-to-day management of the organisation’s internal communications editorial channels, including research and production (eg Intranet (editorial content), newsletters (print and electronic), face-to-face briefings, special initiatives, etc.);

-       provide internal communications advice and support to all parts of the organisation;

-       promote and protect the organisation’s brand internally;

-       help ensure co-ordination of internal communications with external communications;

-       plan and organise internal communications events and all related aspects, including event organising and management of display material;

-       ensure the organisation’s managers have the resources and support they need to inform and engage their staff;

-       be able to work across the full range of communications activities;

-       dealing with reactive press enquiries

-       plan, organise and oversee spending on staff awards/rewards and recognition schemes;

-       analyse the internal communications implications of internal and external developments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

-       lead the development and implementation of a regular, corporate team briefing policy and mechanism, carrying out monitoring to ensure that the system is being used across the organisation;

-       ensure key messages about local and national development are communicated to staff;

-       proactively identify and pursue opportunities to promote the work, vision and values of the organisation internally to all staff;

-       day-to-day management of the organisation’s internal communications editorial channels, including research and production (eg Intranet (editorial content), newsletters (print and electronic), face-to-face briefings, special initiatives, etc.);

-       provide internal communications advice and support to all parts of the organisation;

-       promote and protect the organisation’s brand internally;

-       help ensure co-ordination of internal communications with external communications;

-       plan and organise internal communications events and all related aspects, including event organising and management of display material;

-       ensure all of the organisation’s managers have the resources and support they need to inform and engage their staff;

-       be able to work across the full range of communications activities;

-       dealing with reactive press enquiries as part of the communications team as and when required;

-       plan, organise and oversee spending on the staff awards/rewards and recognition schemes;

-       help develop the internal communication strategy and supporting action plan;

-       work with the organisational development team to help implement the organisational development and staff engagement strategies;

-       analyse the internal communications implications of internal and external developments;.

-       produce, conduct and analyse internal staff surveys;

-       analyse the results of the national NHS staff survey and produce action plans and communications strategy;

-       have an overview of design and print technology, web and emergent technologies;

-       organise development sessions on staff briefing and engagement for Trust managers;

-       the post carries a need for budgetary awareness;

-       use office systems on a daily basis;

-       attend mandatory training.

 

To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.

  • Ability to demonstrate experience in internal communications, broad communications, marketing or similar in an executive/officer role.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of successful working with different staff groups.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
