The Integrated Pain and Spinal Service (IPASS) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative candidate to an 8a Spinal Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner post. This role would be considered as a band 7-8a development role on completion of appropriate competencies dependent on experience. The role is part time on a permanent contract.
You will provide high quality assessment and help with onwards management of people experiencing spinal related pain. You will be a highly skilled Physiotherapist with a proven record of advanced level practice working at a band 7 level or above within spinal musculoskeletal clinics.
IPASS is a specialist service whose key role is to facilitate stepped care between GPs and secondary care to provide effective, patient centred care of patients. This post offers a fantastic opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering high quality, compassionate care. The post will cover the West of Berkshire and will include travel between sites. You will be working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary IPASS team and across services and trusts in Berkshire. We are integrated with an excellent pain service and work very closely with them.
Main duties of the job

The role will involve conducting detailed assessment of spinal pathology and non MSK causes of pain including but not limited to rheumatology, neurology, vascular, oncology and chronic pain

Case discussion with spinal consultants

Organizing appropriate investigations for example blood tests and MRI scans

Discussing onwards management with patients in a compassionate and empathetic manner

The role will also involve high level supervision of staff in the musculoskeletal physiotherapy services

Education/Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy.
- MSc or formal post-graduate qualification relevant to specialist field or equivalent.
- To have undertaken accredited courses which enable work to be performed at Advanced Practitioner level
- Significant Post-graduate training in the relevant specialist field: Highly developed specialist knowledge and skills underpinned by experience
- Proven track record of CPD in specialist area
- HCPC registered
Desirable criteria
- Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER) training
- Additional training in the ordering and interpretation of radiology and haematological investigations
- Post-graduate management / Leadership course
- Member of the CSP
- Member of a specialist interest group i.e. Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner Network (APPN)
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate clinical leadership within the Physiotherapy Department, including direct supervision and training of senior staff
- Ability to demonstrate substantial relevant experience working as a senior and highly specialist physiotherapist in the areas of musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and pain management
- Demonstrate a very high level of clinical reasoning skills and specialist knowledge
- Experience of complex case management
- Experience of instigating and interpreting investigations and initiating appropriate plans of care for patients
- Experience of formal and informal teaching to colleagues in the Physiotherapy Departments, other AHPs and GPs/Registrars
- Develop guidelines, pathways and policies relating to specialist field

- Experience working directly alongside Consultants and GPs

- Expert Knowledge of pathology, assessment, diagnosis and management in the specialist fields of orthopaedics, rheumatology and pain
