Based at Wokingham Hospital, but covering other clinical locations within Berkshire, the post holder will part of a small team dedicated to offering specialist continence advice, support and treatment as a pelvic health physiotherapist. 

Directly supervising the clinical nurse specialists and the band 4 Continence Advisors in the team, to ensure they meet the changing needs of the service and be responsible for the modernisation and delivery of the Bladder and Bowel service. 

To provide timely pelvic health physiotherapy specialist assessment and treatment of patients with complex bladder and bowel problems including Stress Urinary Incontinence, Urge Urinary Incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse as well as other pelvic issues. Referrals are received from GP practices as well as from gynaecologist, obstetric and colorectal consultants. Alongside other team members they will assist in the delivery of specialist continence service to Berkshire by educating and supporting both professional and lay carers in all aspects of promotion of bowel and bladder function and when necessary, the management of incontinence.  

The Post holder will be required to work in close collaboration with relevant managers, consultants, GPs, and other health professions, to provide a patient centred, seamless, integrated approach, consistent with the principles of clinical governance.

Between 22.5 – 37.5 hours will be considered. 

Main duties of the job

To ensure the smooth day to day delivery of high quality, responsive, patient centred Specialist bowel and bladder service as a pelvic health physiotherapist, escalating risk, concerns, and areas of non–compliance to the operation service lead. 

To ensure team is compliant against CQC standards, developing and monitoring action plans. Identifying any  non-compliance and escalating areas of risk to Operational Lead.   

Support the recruitment, training, development of staff within the team and deploy staff, maintaining a clear organisational structure, identifying lines of accountability, responsibility and communication within the service. 

To support the operation lead to ensure that appraisal, personal development planning and review are in place for staff within the adult team.  

To ensure delivery of service and clinical outcomes within the Continence service in line with local and National service frameworks. 

To deliver service and clinical outcomes as agreed with the Service Manager. 

To provide a source of clinical expertise for all staff that delivery Continence care within the Trust. 

To provide specialised advice, teaching and training to colleagues working within the service and other specialised clinical areas, regarding individual patients and all areas of the clinical delivery.

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • MSc or formal post-graduate qualification in relevant to specialist field or equivalent
  • Post-graduate management / Leadership course
  • CSP membership

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of CPD in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field / reflective practice in this clinical field.
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Group

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate substantial relevant experience working as a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist
  • Substantial experience of supervision and appraising staff
  • Demonstrate a high level of clinical reasoning skills
  • 12 months experience of managing patient with pelvic floor dysfunction ( Stress urinary incontinence, Urge incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse

  • Evidence of contribution to service development initiatives
