Job overview

Band 6 Ophthalmology Application Support Manager

You will be required to work across both our sites at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading and the Prince Charles Eye Unit in Windsor.

Overall responsibility to administer, manage and support all Ophthalmology systems. This includes Medisoft, the Ophthalmology-specific electronic patient record, the interface between Medisoft and the Trust Electronic Patient Record system (EPR). 

Accountable for the efficient day-to-day Medisoft service delivery in the clinical environment to ensure continuity of patient care. This role includes the development and maintenance of Medisoft operational policies and procedures, system audit, handling of complaints and liaison with clinical users and third party suppliers. 

Responsible for the integrity, safe use and security of the Medisoft databases.

Maintain an effective service delivery through the allocation and management of physical resources and responds to evolving clinical service needs.

Manage all issues relating to and affecting Medisoft and advise on the appropriate prioritisation and allocation of budgetary resources to support service development and improvement. 

Responsible for the provision of technical expertise and advice and for the delivery of Medisoft training to all relevant Trust clinical and non-clinical staff.

Main duties of the job

1/ Define the Digital and Data strategy for the Ophthalmology department, ensuring the department is aligned with current and emerging Digital Ophthalmology innovations and in line with Trust IT strategy and government guidelines (NHS England).

2/ Provide the service with the right advice and guidance around the digital aspirations available, within budgetary constraints. Full evaluations, methodologies and evidence for recommendations to be presented.

3/ Provide day to day operational management of the Ophthalmology IT service to ensure an adequate and robust service to a cross site multidisciplinary Ophthalmology team.

4/ Be responsible for the efficient use of Trust resources re IT, software, and hardware, EPROC, timely payment of invoices, etc.

5/ Liaise with other Project Teams across Ophthalmology, DDaT, Estates and Clinical Engineering.

6/ Experience in facilitating meetings, presentations, and workshops to engage and motivate stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
