Senior Staff Nurse - Respiratory (Internal Only)

Kennet and Loddon Unit are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to take on the role of Senior Staff Nurse on our 50 bedded respiratory unit, including an 8 bedded Respiratory Support Unit (RSU).

We are looking for an individual who not only wants to make a difference by delivering excellent patient care, but to also help support the Ward Managers in all aspects of the role, including managing staff and physical resources effectively. The candidate should act as a role model for all Junior Members of Staff and help support them within their role. The applicant should also be able to problem solve, demonstrate good leadership skills and likewise be resourceful and able to think outside of the box.

As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse there is huge opportunity for you to grow your management and leadership skills. We work closely with our Practice Education Team and will support you in both experience and formal training.

 

Main duties of the job

The post-holder works to support the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, deputising in the absence of the Ward Manager for all aspects of the role including managing staff and physical resources effectively.

He/she acts as a role model, demonstrating high levels of clinical expertise, leading, managing and delivering individual patient care.

The post-holder supports the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in ensuring robust infection control practices amongst all staff as well ensuring high standards of ward cleanliness.

He/she proactively promotes staff development, ensuring its relevance to the practice area and individual needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Demonstrate specialist skill and professional knowledge acquired through post-registration academic, clinical, leadership and management development. Work as an excellent role model for professional practice.

In accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives and Trust policies, protocols and guidelines. Is accountable for own practice and for appropriate delegation of care he/she gives to colleagues, nursing support workers and students.

Demonstrate expert ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, guiding more junior staff to deliver effective, holistic, person-centered care. Display sound analytical and critical thinking ability in complex and rapidly changing situations.
