Band 8D Head of Radiation Protection

Due to the retirement of the current post holder, we are recruiting a Head of Radiation Protection.

The successful candidate will lead a dynamic team providing a full range of Radiation Protection services across the Trust and to other private and NHS hospitals.

The Department sits within the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Directorate.

We are active in research, development, teaching and outreach, and the Department enjoys excellent team work and staff satisfaction.

We are an accredited training centre with a steady stream of high calibre STP graduates.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA), Medical Physics Expert (MPE), and ideally a Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA) and will lead provide scientific and managerial leadership for Radiation Protection services.  

The Radiation Protection Service aims to ensure the safety of all patients, staff and visitors who come into contact with ionising or non-ionising radiation.

Services provided are Trust-wide, and include services to other nearby NHS and private hospitals.

The Department provides a wide range of services including provision of Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) for the Trust, Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA), Trust Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology, Laser Protection Advisor (LPA), MR Safety Expert (MRSE) and safety advisor for Ultrasound and Phototherapy.

The Service provides advice and training to users of ionising and non-ionising radiation.
