RBFT is creating a Heath Data Institute (HDI) to harness and optimise the value and use of the health data generated by its front-line staff, this is with the view to drive innovation and improve healthcare outcomes.

The HDI offers an exciting opportunity for RBFT to progress even more effectively with its use of data and within the 3 year initial phase of the HDI. The main priority for year 1 and year 2 is for us to optimise and unlock the potential of the health data we hold to support our clinicians and operations staff regarding the improvement of patient outcome and operational & clinical processes. Over the next 3 years, our visions is: to become a nationally recognised institute with evidential impact of the use of advanced analytics in health care in improving clinical outcomes and productivity

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and collaborative Principal Analyst – Data Science with a passion for enabling transformational service delivery through data science to join the team.  You will have strong hands-on experience and a solid track record of statistical analysis, machine learning, predictive analysis, software engineering.

This is a newly created post where the post holder will have responsibility for developing the advanced analytics capability function within the Informatics department to support the trust's digital strategy and Health Data Institute.  

As a senior member of the team, the post holder will be required to support the Head of Data Research and Advanced Analytics in being the Trust-wide lead on a specific area of AI policy or service delivery and/or representing the Informatics department on major project boards.  They will also hold professional leadership responsibility for any activities undertaken by any staff within the informatics function in their area of expertise.

·       Lead data scientist in Reading Health Data Institute

·       Informatics lead in RBH projects with the Informatics Research Centre (IRC) based at the University of Reading (UoR)

·       Lead on RBFT’s Artificial Intelligence and data science research and operationalization workstreams

·       Main informatics lead and support for the data science projects that comes out of the UoR Joint Academic Board

·       Support the UoR placement students (masters and PhD) in the RBFT informatics department and the RHDI

·       Informatics lead in supporting the Thames Valley Artificial Intelligence hub initiative

Principle responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and application of data science solutions to deliver key outputs for the RBFT and RHDI Data science work programmes (primarily in R or Python).
  • Build programming capability among data analysts to encourage more code-based, reproducible analysis
  • Aid the development of automated methods to produce health indicators and reporting products
  • Planning, managing and delivering on a range of advanced analytics and research projects requiring potentially complex analytic input, including negotiating and agreeing the most appropriate data output, initiating and planning workloads and setting delivery timescales
  • Supporting the analytical work of other members of the analytics team
  • To consult closely with Trust and system partners including the TVAI, TVSDE, Connected Care BI team and the IRC based at the UoR to identify key priorities and deliver innovative solutions related to end-to-end data science applications that apply predictive, prescriptive, and cognitive analytic methods to hospital and system-wide clinical and operational strategic initiatives
  • To deliver on the aims, objectives and deliverables in the RDHI business case
  • To provide advice and guidance to members of staff and placements students on matters related to their work/projects as subject matter expert (SME)
  • To provide professional leadership in the specialist subject area of Data Science including Business intelligence and Artificial intelligence
  • To manage the informatics involvement in any internal or external projects related to the area of expertise
  • To manage and liaise with internal and external stakeholders involved in the flow of data and information to support exploitation of data as a business and research resource
  • To contribute to the formation and continuing development of an effective Informatics service
  • To contribute to Information Governance through ensuring the NHS deals with sensitive information in legal, secure, efficient and effective ways
