Neuro Long Term Conditions Clinical Lead Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a lead clinical nurse specialist with relevant experience of working with people living with long term neurological conditions, to contribute to improvements in neurological care while supporting the clinical nurse specialist team.

The purpose of this post is to oversee the development of an expert specialist service that has a consistent and sustainable impact on the experience of patients and carers with neurological care needs across the Trust.

The post-holder will provide leadership to the multi-disciplinary neurological team to facilitate the provision of expert, high quality neurological care advice and support.

 The Team Lead will also act as an expert practitioner in neurological care particularly Parkinson’s and exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy and make criteria judgements of the highest order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role. The post-holder will also act as an expert resource on neurological care issues to health care professionals throughout the Trust.

Main duties of the job

 To improve standards of neurological care by facilitating the development of practice and strengthening leadership to ensure that patients with long-term neurological conditions and their families/carers have a quality experience including a thorough holistic assessment and a plan of care to address their individual needs.

 To oversee and support the team in the development and implementation of a consistent and effective service and to improve outcomes in neurological care across the Trust.

To act as a clinical expert in Parkinson’s care providing expert advice at clinical and strategic level.

    In liaison with the Consultant Nurse and other members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate the development of neurological care at clinical, Trust and Network level.

 In liaison with the Matron and Consultant Nurse to support the development of staff caring for patients with neurological care needs.

 With the Consultant Nurse to contribute to clinical governance within the Trust via practice development initiatives.

To work collaboratively with the Consultant Nurse in developing and implementing neurological care strategies.

Education, qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse
  • Minimum 5 years post registration
  • Post registration qualification in relevant specialist field
  • Degree level or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Advanced communication skills training
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate diploma in education
  • Masters degree in a health related subject
  • Independent prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration clinical experience with relevant specialist senior role
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience in teaching and facilitating
Desirable criteria
  • Operational management experience or experience as a ward manager
  • Research experience and dissemination
