Job overview

Maternity Care Assistant 

The post holder will provide support to the Antenatal Diabetes team. They will provide care to pregnant women   working in collaboration with the Midwives and wider multidisciplinary team to provide the highest standard of care.

The successful applicant will carry out assigned tasks including organising and completing screening clinics for diabetes with pregnant women, following up results and ensuring contact with women who screen positive

Main duties of the job

Main tasks will include undertaking vital sign observations, venepuncture, data entry onto electronic patient records (EPR), chaperoning doctors and keeping the clinical areas clean and well stocked at all times.

 Hours will be on week days. Will need to ensure two days of early start at 07:00. Clinics are in Bracknell, Newbury and Reading, so will need full driving licence and access to a car. Travel costs will be reimbursed.

The post holder will provide support to the Antenatal Diabetes team They will work with pregnant women and their families working in collaboration with the Midwives and wider multidisciplinary team to provide the highest standard of care.

 They will carry out assigned tasks including direct clinical care, to mothers and their babies. They will operate the screening tests for all women identified at risk of diabetes, follow up results and ensure follow up care planned with the midwives and wider team.  Main tasks will include undertaking vital sign observations, venepuncture, data entry onto electronic patient records (EPR), chaperoning doctors and keeping the clinical areas clean and well stocked at all times.

 

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria
  • • Good standard of general education in English language Maths GCSE A-C, Level 4-9, Functional skills Level 2 or equivalent
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to car
Desirable criteria
  • Care certificate
  • Band 3 competency

Essential / Desirable

Essential criteria
  • Currently Band 2 or 3 care assistant with RBFT
Desirable criteria
  • Competent in venepuncture.

Skills

  • Good communication skills (verbal and non-verbal)
  • Understands the importance of placing women and families at centre of care
