Band 6/7 Clinical Nurse Specialist - Inflammatory Bowel Disease

**Can be offered as a Band 6-7 developmental role if not currently working at Band 7 level**

Works as an expert in clinical field to deliver specialist clinical services to patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Provides specialist, interdisciplinary education and training to other staff and students.

Clinically manages and engineers the pathway for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Works strategically to influences the development of the service both locally and nationally.

Leads clinical audits in own area.

Participates in /facilitates/ undertakes research in specialist field.

Main duties of the job

 1.    Works collaboratively with the multi professional team to develop and maintain a strategy relating to the care of patients in specialist area.

2.    Works both as an independent practitioner, and as an effective member of the wider interdisciplinary clinical team. Demonstrates excellent communication ability.

3.    Utilises an agreed service plan as a framework for service delivery. Leads clinical audit in own area.

4.    Uses data from audit / quality monitoring/ patient satisfaction questionnaires /service review to inform clinical governance. Utilises information to ensure that services are responsive to patient needs. Ensures patients are consulted in the development of services.

5.    When appropriate, manages people and financial resources to ensure the effective operation of the team for which he/ she is responsible.

6.    Is responsible for ensuring own clinical practice complies with Data Protection/ Confidentiality/ Caldicott principles.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Pt 1/12)
  • ENB 998/ Slice, C&G 730 or equivalent
  • Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Evidence of recent appropriate clinical practice in specialty

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent clinical experience at Band 6/7 in speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of successful change management
  • Evidence of recent appropriate clinical practice in specialty (Gastroenterology)
