Interviews will be held on 18 July 2024.

Under the supervision of a member of the ward staff /qualified practitioner the post holder will plan, coordinate and implement a range of individual and group activities designed to meet the social and recreational needs of in-patients.   

The post holder will be required to use their initiative when working independently on the wards and are expected to report any clinical progress, concerns or change to a qualified practitioner. 

They will liaise with the relevant disciplines and departments involved in the care of the patient to ensure that the planned activities reflect the required needs as detailed in the patients care plan. 

The post holder will work flexibly in relation to service need to ensure safety and efficiency of the ward. This will be a seven day per week service and operate from 4pm-10pm, 2pm-10pm every day although flexibility around times could be considered

  • To demonstrate a knowledge and awareness of current clinical issues in relation to people currently experiencing mental health problems
  • To take the lead in planning a range of therapeutic activities that are appropriate for the needs of patients in agreement with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be able to establish effective therapeutic engagement and relationships with inpatients and carers 
  • To facilitate social and recreational activities/groups for inpatients with a range of problems and complex needs, with the aim of supporting their health, well-being and recovery 
  • To ensure a programme of daily activities/groups are on display for inpatients to see and provided in a timely and organised manner to support routine and structure 
  • To work on the wards and promote engagement in activities and provide low level stimulus. Eg creative activities, social interactions, discussions 
  • To be able to assess patients’ well-being during activities and social interactions and monitor progress 
  • To adapt activities to meet the needs of people and provide a calming, de-escalating manner at all times 
  • To provide verbal and written feedback to relevant multidisciplinary team members following activities as required 
  • To complete robust documentation of each session within the patients’ care record following an activity.

Previous Experience

  • Experience working with patients with Mental Health
  • Experience working with groups of people

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
