Our Getting Help team are recruiting a qualified (or about to qualify) Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP).

The Getting Help Team team play a vital part in providing early mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people in the community.  They adopt a multi-agency approach with close links to specialist CAMHS, ensuring a seamless approach to care for children and young people.

You’ll work independently to deliver high quality, outcome informed, low intensity therapy based interventions. This hybrid role will involve working in person and online. The team are based in Bracknell, with flexibility to work from home where appropriate. Being able to manage your own diary is essential.

In this role. you will have experienced practitioners around you and ongoing CPD. You'll have opportunities for development and excellent supervision. There is the chance to get involved in wider projects and room to grow and progress.

As well as qualified CWP's, the team welcome applications from Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) or Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP) who have completed a children’s module.  Candidates will need to be accredited (or eligible for accreditation) with BPS or BABCP. 

The working pattern for this permanent role is Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.

Main duties of the job

·       Deliver evidence-based intervention for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems

·       As a qualified CWP be confident in the use of CYP IAPT principles, evidence-based interventions and routine outcome measures.

·       Helping children and young people who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services; using effective multiagency collaborative working to effectively signpost and refer on where needed

·       Supporting professionals in various settings (e.g. education, Early Help, Social Care etc.) to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing

·       To care co-ordinate and manage a defined caseload of children and young people presenting with emotional health and wellbeing difficulties in schools under supervision

·       To develop and provide training/workshops for professionals,  parents and carers, and CYP in conjunction with colleagues.

·        Actively promote the whole system approach to developing and maintaining emotional health and well-being within and across services.

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Graduate Diploma/ Post Graduate Diploma qualification as a Children Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP).
  • A British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited or the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) accredited CWP training course or preparing to submit for accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in child and adolescent mental health

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of two years’ experience of working with CYP
  • Experience of delivering specific evidence based low intensity interventions to CYP and/or their families
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place to demonstrate outcomes
  • Experience of working in or with a diverse or multi-cultural community
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working as a qualified Childrens and Young Peoples Wellbeing Practitioner
  • Experience of working with looked after children or other vulnerable groups of CYP

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of common mental health issues experienced by CYP and how they may present
  • Understanding the importance of increasing access to evidence based mental health care for CYP and their families
  • Knowledge of evidence based low intensity interventions for CYP
  • Knowledge of and ability to use routine outcome measures with CYP and families
  • Understanding the importance of collecting feedback from service users and other key stakeholders, and using this to contribute to quality improvement
  • Ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessments within scope of practice
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues and a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of CYPand vulnerable adults
  • Understanding of ethics and patient confidentiality of working with CYP
  • Ability to personally manage a sensitive, and potentially emotionally distressing caseload.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop therapeutic and professional relationships with a range of people
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, clients, and families, in a manner that is sensitive to and acknowledging of their needs, experience and all aspects of diversity
  • Computer literate and able to use Microsoft programmes including Excel database, word, and outlook
