Job overview

Applications are invited for the above full time post  for this 660 bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. 

The main responsibilities of the Locum Consultant will be as follows:

·   Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the care of all patients presenting to the hospital

·  To share with colleagues, the management of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients requiring admission

·         To undertake duties as defined within agreed job plan

·     Teaching and training of intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students

·         To undertake duties as defined within the agreed job plan

·    To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit

·      To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD)

·         To participate in on-call rota providing specialist and timely advice

Main duties of the job

This is a post for a Locum Consultant Gynaecologist with a special interest in Urogynaecology, to commence as soon as possible. Whilst the focus of the post is Urogynaecology, the post holder will be expected to provide a very significant part of the acute gynaecology consultant service and make a contribution towards the consultant delivery suite rota. It is expected that the post holder, once appointed, will work in partnership with the existing sub specialty trained urogynaecologist. This post is likely to evolve in the future with the growing Urogynaecology work and in line with the requirements specified by the British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG).

 

The appointee will be based at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital (but may be asked to work on the Bedford Hospital site also) and run gynaecology and gynaecological 2WW clinics, hysteroscopy clinics, labour wards, Gynaecology MDT, participate in the on-call rota and run theatre sessions. We are happy to support the appointee with Colposcopy clinics, if they have Colposcopy interests.  It is expected that the post holder, once appointed, will work in partnership with the existing Urogynaecologist at Luton and Dunstable hospital and expected to work some sessions at Milton Keynes hospital.

Training

Essential criteria
  • Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT or equivalent (CESR) by date of interview

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice (GMC licence to practice is mandatory before employment commences
  • Specialist Registration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or eligibility to enter it within 6 months from the time of the interview

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • ATSM in Urogynaecology
  • ATSM in Labour ward practice
Desirable criteria
  • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in Urogynaecology and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering a service without direct supervision
  • Obstetrics & Gynaecological Surgery including minimal access surgery

Clinical Effectiveness

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance.
  • An interest which improves the Obstetrics and Gynaecology pathway in all aspects
  • Experience of guideline appraisal
  • Participation in relevant local audits
  • Ability to interpret and apply clinical research
Desirable criteria
  • Participation in relevant national audits

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students.
  • Completed a Teaching the Teachers or similar course
  • Understands learner centred teaching
  • Evidence of involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course
