Specialist Occupational Therapist

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and innovative Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic team. We have have an opportunity to appoint a fixed term (or secondment opportunity) occupational therapist within our orthopaedic and surgical therapy team.

If you are looking to specialise in Orthopaedics ,Trauma and Surgery we would love to hear from you. We would encourage applications from band 6’s looking for progression and Band 7’s looking to further develop within these specialities. We have a well-established team with senior therapists, who can support you in this role and encourage essential professional development. As long as you have a willingness to learn and adapt to change, we can support you!

This post will allow you to develop a wide range of clinical, managerial, organisational, teaching and supervision skills. You will play an active role in audits and service development. We offer a well-established supervision and appraisal structure. We encourage individual progression within the team and have a firm commitment to in service training, CPD as well as supporting staff to attend relevant external courses and conferences.

You will be required to work with other qualified and non-qualified staff to provide a seven day service including Bank Holidays, with a commitment of 1 in 4 weekends with days off in lieu. The service  provides cover 8:00-20:00 Mon- Friday and 8:00-16:00 at weekends

  • Provide a high standard of specialist assessments and treatments for patients across our service areas.
  • Use specialist knowledge to make comprehensive referrals for patients moving from the acute setting into the community. 
  • Use strong interpersonal skills to communicate often complex information, to a variety of people including the MDT, community services and service users. 
  • Provide supervision and support to members of the therapy team
  • Plan and motivate the team to be involved in and deliver on quality improvement projects to contribute to service development. 
  • Hold shared responsibility with other Band 7 therapy staff in the team to manage the team, including sickness, annual leave, rotas, performance to standards, supervision, engagement.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/degree in physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses/in-service trainings relevant to the clinical field. 2

  • Evidence of managerial / leadership training.
  • Clinical Educators Certificate/training

Experience

  • Extensive postgraduate experience, a large proportion of which should be within the relevant speciality
  • Demonstrable ability to manage highly complex patients independently
  • Teaching qualified/unqualified staff Decision making involving complex facts / situations

  • Experience of working in liaison with community therapy services and intermediate care services
  • Development of protocols and guidelines

Knowledge

  • Up to date knowledge of relevant national clinical guidelines, recommendations, protocols or publications relevant to the speciality
  • Specialist knowledge of broad range of illnesses, injuries and conditions relevant to the speciality Specialist knowledge of a broad range of physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques relating to the speciality.
