Job overview

Due to retirement within the team, an exciting opportunity has arisen to work within our Children's Safeguarding Team, as a Children's Safeguarding Specialist Nurse. The post holder will be at the forefront of safeguarding our most vulnerable children and families, working with staff on site and other agencies to ensure best practices and outcomes are achieved. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the Children's Safeguarding Team to promote positive patient outcomes.  They will be visible in the organisation and be able to utilise their excellent communication skills to provide specialist safeguarding advice and support to staff across the trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide specialist safeguarding advice to staff across the trust, including adult areas to ensure that the think family approach is embedded within practice.

Support with the Child Death Overview Process, when a Child or Young Person sadly dies, in line with Statutory guidance. 

Liaison with external agencies in regards to children/young people, whereby onward referrals are required.

Provide Children's Safeguarding Training across the trust, in line with the intercollegiate document.

To attend Strategy Discussions with the local authority, when a child/young person is at risk of significant harm.

Ensuring and supporting new/ current policies and procedures are implemented within the Trust.

Assisting with the development of processes and procedures for safeguarding children to ensure that prevention of abuse and safeguarding systems are in place to minimise risk.

Identify and take responsibility and ensure actions are in place to meet the health of vulnerable children/young people across the Trust.  This will involve cross organisational and partnership working at an operational level.

Be actively involved in service developments in relation to inter-agency working for the safeguarding of vulnerable patients in accordance with national and local requirements.

Support the safeguarding agenda adhering to current legislation including the Care Act and the Children’s Act etc.
