Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and enthusiastic Assistant Practitioner to join our Regional CAMHS Crisis & Unscheduled Care Service based within our Central Hub providing regional support to East, West or Centre areas of North Wales. You will be part of a dynamic team who deliver assessment, follow up and short-term interventions for Children and Young People who are experiencing Mental Health crisis, involving their families and other support networks, as well as providing consultation and training for our key stakeholders.
The Crisis & Unscheduled Care Service is in the process of development and expansion both within our service offer and operational hours, including late evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Clinical work will take place in a variety of settings including the local Emergency Departments, Children’s Wards, and the community across the whole North Wales region.
If successful you will contribute to the ongoing development and innovation within our service and be supported with personal and professional development through regular supervision and Performance Appraisal and Development Review (PADR).
Main duties of the job
As part of the Children’s, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), the post holder will provide care and support to children, young people and their families/carers who come to the attention of CAMHS Unscheduled Care as a result of their mental health needs.
The work will involve elements of assessment, support and care for those who present with increased risk to themselves or others, and may require a higher level of observation, such as 1:1 if they are in the hospital environment, and provide community based short-term therapeutic interventions/programmes of care for children and Young People, following guidance from senior team members.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of a range of procedures and practices, majority non-routine, theoretical knowledge to diploma level or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of relevant procedures and practices (relating to Children and Young People) acquired through NVQ 3 plus additional training to diploma level equivalent, or equivalent through short courses, experience
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 4 in relevant subject or A formal qualification of equivalent level or At least one A level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 1 year working directly supporting children in Health, Education or Social Care setting
Desirable criteria
- Experience working with children or young people with significant developmental difficulties or mental health problems
- Experience of working with adolescents
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to follow written programmes of care
- Good organisational abilities and time management
- Good communication with parents and children
- Good behaviour management skills
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of child development and the needs of different age groups
