Job overview

The Deputy Director, Service Transformation works alongside the Director of Primary and Community Transformation and Improvement in NHS England to shape and lead system wide change across general practice and wider primary and community services. 

This role has key responsibilities for leading research and gathering evidence about best practice, the development  of effective improvement approaches and developing new models of improvement support for general practice and primary care networks

Main duties of the job

As a Deputy Director of Service Transformation. the post holder will lead and work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the team to delivering the primary care transformation and system objectives as set out in the Primary Care Access Recovery Plan, Fuller Stocktake and Long Term Plan

The post holder will have accountability and responsibility for the strategic and operational development of their areas of work. Plans to achieve the strategy will be underpinned by the delivery of short to medium term objectives.

Including:

§     Ensure the strategy is formulated, understood by all stakeholders and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.

§     Proactively manage the key risks and issues associated with ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.

§     Monitoring the overall progress of the work to ensure completion within agreed timescales.

§     Manage the budgetary implications of activity.

 

Manage and actively promote the relationships with key stakeholders.

Essential Criteria

Essential criteria
  • Subject matter expertise in healthcare, including one or more key areas relating to NHS commissioning, primary care, community pharmacy and medicines. Experience of policy development at a senior level, with proven and significant leadership experience, able to undertake strategic thinking and planning with highly developed political skills.
  • Board level experience of leading and delivering complex change and strategy development programmes in a politically sensitive and complex environment. Significant experience and understanding of proven implementation of project management methodologies; and financial management to support delivery.
  • Strong management and communication skills, able to deal with challenging situations in a formal setting and lead a large and dynamic team to deliver to tight timescales. Able to own key senior strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Able to prepare and produce concise yet insightful communications to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Able to analyse highly complex issues where material is conflicting and drawn from multiple sources (verbal, written and numerical). Able to act upon incomplete information, using experience to make inferences and decision making.
  • In depth experience (minimum five years+) expertise and knowledge of researching and understanding of user needs for digital tools and applying service design methodologies to design, test and co-ordinate multiple new digital projects or digital pathways at national scale.
