Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist post within Central Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in North Wales. This is a full time permanent post. Central CAMHS has a team of Clinical Psychologists, as well as committed and supportive multi-disciplinary staff from a range of professional backgrounds.

Central CAMHS offers a full range of assessment and therapeutic services to early years and school-aged children and adolescents and their families. This includes play based and mental health assessments, interventions for mental health problems, multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working and early intervention and prevention work within the local community. The CAMHS team have excellent links with the North Wales Clinical Psychology Programme (Bangor University) and we regularly contribute to training courses and provide a range of trainee placements.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision of a psychological service to clients within the specialty under the direction of the supervising clinical psychologist.

To be responsible for the planning and prioritisation of own workload and activities following the direction and guidelines given by the supervising clinical psychologist.

To undertake assessments of clients and implement programmes of care or intervention following guidance from the supervising clinical psychologist.

To undertake research activities as required and directed by the supervising clinical psychologist.

To work within guidelines given by the supervising clinical psychologist.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 2:1 Honours degree in Psychology or its equivalent for those trained overseas
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable criteria
  • evidence of CPD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of work with children or young people and families within a clinical, social care or educational setting
Desirable criteria
  • Substantial experience of working therapeutically with children and adolescents

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria
  • Undergraduate level knowledge of psychology including some knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology and models of psychopathology.
  • Undergraduate level knowledge of research design and methodology
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary settings under supervision
  • The ability to consider a range of facts while assessing clients, following guidelines given by the supervisor
  • Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals
  • Be capable of working frequently in clinical situations involving emotionally demanding circumstances
