The Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Team is excited to advertise for a number of Band 6 positions across our Early Years and School Aged services in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

We are a friendly and supportive team that deliver a variety of clinical Speech and Language Therapy Services across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We offer regular training opportunities to our staff, a buddy system for new starters, regular line management, whole team and smaller team meetings. A large and supportive team means that there is plenty of opportunity for development and progression internally.

Main duties of the job

We have a mix of fixed term and permanent Band 6 sessions available in the following teams and localities:

Early Years "SPACE" project - an exciting new service across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire offering support for Early Years children and families awaiting an assessment for an ASD diagnosis 
Early Years Universal Services in Bristol and North Somerset
Bristol, North Somerset and South Glos Special Schools (includes dysphagia caseload for many schools)
Bristol Dysphagia Support Team 
Bristol Complex Needs Support Team working across mainstream schools 
ASD Hub offering autism assessments within Bristol localities - Fixed Term
Bristol Early Years Complex Needs Fixed Term - includes dysphagia caseload
Bristol Autism Support Team Fixed Term working across mainstream schools

Essential criteria
  • BSc Hons Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification dysphagia competencies

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a speech and language therapist in mainstream primary and/or secondary schools
  • Sound understanding of the SEND code of Practice Post-qualification
  • Experience of working with children with needs across a range of core areas relevant to the post e.g. neurology, learning disabilities, outpatients, community, complex needs, Autism, Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner e.g., caseload management, prioritising cases, effective organisation and time management skills
  • Experience of working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing specialist support to children with complex motor and / or communication needs
  • Knowledge / experience of the use of specialist paediatric equipment and manual handling guidelines
  • Experience of providing specialist support to children with eating and drinking difficulties
