The North Wales GP Out of Hours Service requires a Medical Advisor to support the East Locality with clinical leadership, clinical governance, audit and service development. 

Requirement - 2 sessions per week.

Main duties of the job

To provide medical leadership expertise and advice to strategic and operational aspects of Out of Hours service provision to the LHB.

To represent Out of Hours with partner agencies, where appropriate at local and national level.  

To work with the other BCU LHB Medical Advisors to assist in the strategic and operational development of unscheduled care services locally, across BCU LHB and to contribute to the national unscheduled care agenda where appropriate.

To lead on the performance management and professional development of GPs working within the OOH service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To lead on the performance management and professional development of GPs working within the OOH service. 

To assist the designated Asst Medical Director to provide and monitor an effective Clinical Governance Structure for the OOH service overall, and to lead Clinical Governance Divisionally (Central, East and West).

To act as local point of contact regarding medical issues in OOH for Secondary care and LMC colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary Degree in Medicine
  • Completion of Vocational Training for General Practice and JCPTGP Certification
Desirable criteria
  • MRCGP (or equivalent) ATLS, ALS, APLS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Three years General Medical Services’ experience
  • Previous Accident and Emergency experience
  • Previous experience managing and supporting other clinical members of staff
Desirable criteria
  • Orthopaedic experience Surgical and general medicine experience
  • GP Out of Hours Experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal skills Good communication skills Competent time management and organisational skills Practical emergency skills
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literate Ability to work in teams and individually in challenging circumstances Audit and research skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary team working
