Job overview

We are seeking a new lead clinician for our Learning Disability & Autism service based at Southmead Hospital.  Your primary purpose will be to lead the planning, provision and improvement of the on service by ensuring high quality clinical practice to individuals including clear record keeping and case load management systems. You will supervise junior staff and students. You will also lead and coordinate a number of projects that may span the Hospital and other services within the Sirona Adult Health Learning Disability Service and with external partners to contribute to the achievement of service objectives

Main duties of the job

Lead on operational management, supervision and appraisal of nurses / clinicians within the Liaison Service including clinical records systems and caseload management in order to ensure contractual performance requirements are met

       Demonstrate leadership behaviours including (but not exclusive to) autonomous practice, self-reflection and awareness, leadership, self-confidence, the ability to facilitate self-awareness in others, resilience and determination.

      Liaise with acute hospital staff and key acute hospital services (i.e. Safeguarding, Discharge planning, Matrons) in order to ensure joined up agreed systems of working to enhance the patient experience

To accept referrals and assess individuals needs in order to provide reasonable adjustments to facilitate access for people who have a learning disability and / or autistic people and are accessing the Hospital services

You will be responsible to the Clinical and Operational Lead (Sirona Adult Health Learning Disability Service) for the planning and delivery of high quality, safe and cost effective provision of the Learning Disability & Autism Liaison Services at the Hospital

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities) and current registration or equivalent professional qualification with current HCPC registration (i.e. RMN, OT, etc.)
  • Educated to degree level or evidence of significant professional development.
  • Comprehensive development in professional procedures within own area and across several related disciplines relevant to service area.

Skills & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive expertise providing clinical interventions to influence and improve the care of people who have a learning disability accessing health services
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the range of challenges experienced by people who have a learning disability accessing acute services and the reasonable adjustments to support them
  • Experience and knowledge of meeting the needs of autistic people
  • Experience of successfully Implementing change to improve services
