Job overview

We are seeking a Children’s Community Physiotherapist with a specialist interest and experience of working in Special Schools, currently based within the Bristol team as part of a BNSSG wide service.

You will provide therapy for children and young people with highly complex developmental, neurological and/or sensory conditions. The role will involve working within the community team and within a specialty school setting.

 

You will also have the opportunity to be involved in the early years’ neuro-disability and integrated OTPT pathways.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Working within a special school and the community setting.
  • Completing new Neuro-disability and Integrated assessments in conjunction with the wider Multi-disciplinary Team.
  • Holding a mixed caseload of predominantly neuro-disability or complex children within the community and special school, visiting patients in their homes, early years settings and mainstream and special schools for physiotherapy treatment.
  • To supervise Band 6's and Band 4's within the team and special school setting.
  • To have or develop knowledge of Hydrotherapy and interest in developing skills in this area to support special school programmes.
  • To be involved in specialist equipment assessments for postural management.
  • To be involved in orthotic assessment alongside an orthotist.
  • To have or develop a specialist interest in the special school services, including areas such as postural management & transition.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy as recognized by the Health Professions Council.
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of advanced postgraduate training relevant to clinical area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working as a key member of the multi- disciplinary team
  • Experience of complex postural management
  • Experience in prioritising and managing own caseload
  • Advanced communication skills, including ability to modify language to overcome barriers to understanding.
  • Ability to provide and evaluate specific therapy interventions for patients with highly complex presentations.
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist interest in the special school services
  • Experience of Hydrotherapy
