Job overview

The Acute Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Band 5 Therapist to join our friendly, innovative and supportive team in a full time, permanent post based at Glan Clwyd Hospital. 

This post requires the successful candidate to have excellent interpersonal skills (including observation, listening and empathy skills) to support the individual needs of patients and families.

As a Speech and Language Therapy Team in Central Area BCUHB we can offer:

·       An opportunity to develop skills in the acute setting through support to complete Newly Qualified Practitioner (NQP) and dysphagia competencies.

·       An opportunity to work with a varied caseload across the hospital wards such as; emergency care, mental health, care of the elderly, vascular, cardiology, orthopaedic, surgery, respiratory, gastroenterology, renal, medical and stroke, with support from our specialist and highly specialist speech and language therapists. 

·       Opportunities to begin to develop skills within specialist caseloads including Stroke, Head and Neck and Mental Health.

·       Collaboration and joint working with other AHPs

·       1:1 regular management supervision and PADR

·       Access to clinical supervision 1:1 and in peer groups.

·       Joint working and second opinions with our clinical specialists.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working within the Acute Speech and Language Therapy team  responsible for the acute caseload within the District General Hospital. This includes:

·       Supporting with triage of referrals, caseload allocation and prioritisation both communication and dysphagia.

·       Supporting with assessment, treatment and management of patients within the inpatient setting.

·       Supporting with development and delivery of training to nurses, medics and the wider MDT.

·       Delegation of tasks to the Speech and Language Therapy Technical Instructors.

·       Supporting with service and quality improvement projects. 

The post holder must be able to demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and be highly motivated to provide excellent hospital care.  

As a successful candidate you will have a recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree and HCPC registration. However, we will consider applications from final year Speech and Language Therapy students. We would consider appointing the successful candidate on reduced hours and at a band 4 until completion of their degree course and full qualification as a Speech and Language Therapist is obtained.
