To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary children’s team to provide play support to meet the needs of children and young people admitted to the Unit aged 0-18 on an individual basis.

Main duties of the job

·         Arranging, initiating and implementing play activities with children/young people

·         Help children/young people to improve through pre-and post-treatment play

·         To implement play programmes for children/young people with specific needs

·         Work in partnership with parents

·         Work in partnership with all agencies in the multi-disciplinary team to provide a quality service

·         Distraction for children/young people undergoing intrusive treatments

·         Creating a safe and aesthetic environment

·         Supporting patients, parents and staff

·         Promote play as a routine activity in an unusual environment

·         Offer support to students from different disciplines in the hospital

·         Monitor, maintain and improve the current play service in conjunction with the rest of the team

·         Participation in all pre-admission programmes

·         Actively involved in health promotion throughout the paediatric Unit

·         Support the development of play work across the Health Board, within available resources

·         Maintain confidentiality at ALL times

·         Maintain own skills through personal development and by attending study days and courses

Attend Mandatory Health Board training when required

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
