Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 1,2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the living wage of £12 per hour - £23,465 per annum. This temporary top up will be in place until the annual pay uplift for 2024/25 is confirmed
Job overview
An exciting position has arisen as a support medical secretary to join the Dermatology Department within the Area Central team on a temporary basis. The candidate will be enthusiastic and highly motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The role will be to provide a comprehensive range of secretarial and administration duties to the Consultants and their associated teams
This challenging position requires someone who is a team player, flexible, organised and is able to work well under pressure. The successful candidate will need to have experience within an administrative role.
This position also requires excellent communication skills, the ability to meet the demands of working in a busy environment and is able to represent the department with due professionalism.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide an efficient high quality typing and administration service to support the medical secretarial team. Support the team in the management of patient’s medical case notes and effective filing system and supporting the patients along the defined patient pathway.
Promote and build positive relationships within the medical secretarial team, patients and service users and all BCU employees. Contribute to the effectiveness of the medical secretary team.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Good standard of general education/(GCSE maths and English at grade C) and above or equivalent.
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent knowledge and experience or willing to work towards.
- L2 RSA/OCR or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Customer Service L2.
- L2 Medical terminology.
- IT related qualification( CLAIT plus or ECDL
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of a range of administrative processes.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in office environment.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of staff both verbally and in writing.
