Senior Biomedical Scientist - Reception and Dissection area of Cellular Pathology
We are looking for an individual with a keen interest in histology dissection and the reception and cut-up areas of the laboratory, as well as being aware of all areas of Cellular Pathology.
Cellular Pathology in BCUHB are seeking applications from enthusiastic, capable, flexible scientists to join our vibrant and forward looking service.
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be required to work within the professional standards expected as a registrant of the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and maintain a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional development (CPD).
The post holder will be required to conform to agreed standard operational procedures, policies and good laboratory practice and also within their work duties, comply with the standards as required of UKAS and other relevant professional and Legislative Bodies (e.g. H.T.A.)
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of a team of senior scientists responsible for the operational delivery of core and specialist Cellular Pathology services in BCUHB.
As a registered Biomedical Scientist, they are responsible for the delivery and continued development of a comprehensive Cellular Pathology service to meet the needs of the BCUHB clinical and patient population and led by the strategic and operation direction set by the CPG and communicated through the Specialist Service manager.
Working with the Specialist Service Manager, the local Senior Scientific Team and the pan BCU senior scientific team; the post holder will input to service design and development and will implement agreed developments and departmental policy through effective management of a team of scientific and support staff.
The post holder will exercise autonomy within professional boundaries and will be involved in managing priorities, designing and implementing developments, managing and delivering training and overseeing quality within the Cellular Pathology department as part of a multi-skilled
team.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent qualification in Biomedical Sciences
- HPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- MSc or equivalent in Cellular Pathology to FIBMS standard or equivalent through in-depth experience/ postgraduate level courses / and extensive relevant experience.
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Service improvement and modernization qualification e.g. EQFM, Lean, TQM
- Recognized Management Qualification or working towards one
- ECDL
- IBMS DEP Histology Dissection
Skills
Essential criteria
- Technical competence to perform tasks requiring precision and manual dexterity
- Awareness of current issues within pathology and cellular pathology
- Ability to organize workload to meet agreed schedules, deadlines and clinical priorities
- Ability to clearly communicate highly complex scientific and clinical information
- Up to date knowledge of best practice standards and their application within a named specialty
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of professional training / education agenda
- Experience of participation in quality assessments and accreditation visits
- Experience in a range of IT applications including Microsoft office and pathology computer systems
- Understanding of clinical governance, audit and achieving objectives
- Experience of effective staff management including development, performance and conduct.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive clinical laboratory post-registration experience in cellular pathology speciality
- Knowledge & Experience of a wider Cellular Pathology Service
- Evidence of CPD in Cellular Pathology
- Good, up to date knowledge of laboratory services relevant to a named cellular Pathology specialty.
- Knowledge and experience of delivering quality led laboratory services
Desirable criteria
- Ability to speak Welsh
- Evidence of managing a laboratory or sections within a Cellular Pathology laboratory
