Job overview

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, suitably qualified, experienced, and self-motivated Senior Voice and Data Engineer to be based at either Abergele Hospital, Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor or Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Working as a member of the Voice and Data team within the ICT department, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, installation, and on-going operational management and support of the Health Board’s voice and data infrastructures.

Main duties of the job

Ideally, the post holder should have a relevant degree/HND and/or extensive equivalent experience of one or more of the following:

  • Data Networking Technologies (including LAN and WAN)
  • Network Protocols (TCP/IP and Ethernet)
  • Voice and Video Communication Technologies
  • Network Security Technologies (including Firewall and Intrusion Prevention Systems)
  • Wireless Networking Technologies

Additionally the post holder should have excellent trouble shooting and interpersonal skills as they will be required to provide specialist technical 3rd line support to departmental colleagues and 3rd party providers.

The post holder may be asked to work across all BCUHB sites and locations, therefore the ability to access transport (public and/or private) to travel off site is essential.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised higher education qualification in a computing or related discipline e.g. 1st Degree, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience working at a Senior/Specialist Engineers level
  • Recognised Industry qualification e.g Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
Desirable criteria
  • Other industry qualifications (e.g. CCNP Security, CCNP Data Centre)
  • Formal project management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced Senior/Specialist Engineer in Data networking and telecommunications/telephony systems. Experience of supporting complex Data and Voice infrastructures to an advanced level.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of data networking and telecommunications/telephony technologies, methods, and principles to an advanced level.
  • Experience of co-ordinating, and contributing to ICT projects.
  • Significant experience working in an operational and service environment in a large corporate environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience of project management and systems development.
  • Experience in ICT infrastructure strategy and planning.
