Job overview

This post is Fixed term/Secondment for 15 months to meet the needs of the service.

Full time - 37.5 Hours per week - Fixed Term Contact 

The role of the ICT Desktop Support Technician is to provide second line support, both in person and remotely in both clinical and non-clinical settings.

 

 

Main duties of the job

Extensive knowledge and experience with complex troubleshooting of Windows operating systems is essential for this role.  Experience with supporting technologies such as SCCM, Active Directory and DHCP, in a large enterprise infrastructure environment would be beneficial.

You will need to demonstrate good technical knowledge with hardware and software in a busy environment. You will be working within a team on a rota basis but be able to work independently and be comfortable planning your workload in an efficient manner. 

You will be working closely with other ICT teams such as Server Infrastructure and Voice & Data, in order to troubleshoot and resolve issues. Additionally, the post holder should have excellent interpersonal skills, as they will be required to speak with all levels of personnel throughout the organisation as well as third party providers. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualification & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience gained in the computing industry, through attendance at specialist technical courses.
  • Experience of providing indepth ICT support to Negotiated Service Level agreements in a hospital or large organisation environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised professional qualification in an electronic engineering/computing field such as MCSE MCSP (Microsoft Certification)
  • Experience of liaising with senior managerial staff and clinical staff in the determination of their information technology needs.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate highly complex ideas effectively at all levels
  • Ability to write and maintain highly complex technical reports, operational procedures and system documentation sets in an accurate, concise and clear manner.
  • Must have advanced IT/Keyboard skills demonstrable across Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Ability to direct and conduct research into ICT issues, systems and products as required.
  • Ability to assimilate highly complex information over a range of technical specialities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Possesses a specialised knowledge gained by experience and training in areas of IT
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of NHS Wales and LHB information and communications technology standards and requirements.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of both local and national NHS ICT developments and strategies.
  • Full knowledge of NHS IT security policies and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of organisations goals and objectives.
