We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Ortho- Geriatrician who would work mainly at Watford General Hospital, West Hertfordshire NHS Hospitals’ Trust with 4 sessions a week at the Royal National Orthopaedic hospital providing a medical liaison service. 
The successful applicant will join an experienced substantive Ortho- Geriatrician and have full support of the departments across both sites. Watford General Hospital is a busy district general hospital, which is currently undergoing redevelopment with the aim of a brand new hospital in the next few years.
The applicant will provide care to patients admitted with neck of femur and non-neck of femur fractures as well as Silver Trauma. 
We have embraced the new virtual way of working a virtual hospital for frailty led by two substantive frailty consultants allowing for accelerated discharge safely into the community. We work closely with our community colleagues to help with admission avoidance with regular rapid response sessions and community MDTs with frailty clinics within the local community. The post is based across trusts and is based on a ten session Programmed Activities (10 PA) contract.

•    £7,000 golden hello payment for new recruits to be paid in 12 equal instalments.
•    £12k recruitment and retention fee year 1, 2 & 3 (paid in equal monthly instalments) (new recruits)
•    Successful candidates will be also eligible for a relocation allowance of £12,000 (if required

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The successful candidate will work alongside a substantive consultant Orthogeriatrician and provide care to those suffering neck of femur and non-neck of femur fractures, providing medical care, bone protection and falls work up whilst also providing similar medical liaison at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital for adults with a wide range of orthopaedic conditions including sarcoma and bone infection.
The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to the provision of patient care. Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload flexibly and to ensure that clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

Main duties include performing a daily consultant ward round, leading MDT’s and educating resident doctors working 9am-5pm. There will be a geriatric on call commitment which will be a 1 week in 3 with TOIL or increase in PA given to compensate for this the hours of which are 1:00pm to 9:00pm. The ideal candidate would also be able to contribute to service development within their speciality interest.
