Main duties of the job
- To be a professional role model, leading and co-ordinating the specialty team. Take continuing responsibility and accountability for the 24-hour management and organisation of the department. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.
- Provide specialist perioperative advice Trust wide to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
- Ensure that patient care remains the top priority at all times, placing their needs, safety and well-being at the centre of every decision md action.
- Maintain a flexible approach to clinical duties, adapting to changing needs and providing cover across specified areas as required to ensure seamless patient care.

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse or Registered Practitioner (confirmed through NMC / HCPC / professional body)
- Minimum requirement of Degree qualification and post registration qualification applicable to specialist area.
- Mentorship qualification or equivalent teaching experience
Desirable criteria
- Critical Care qualification or ALS/ILS
- Evidence of research, audit or service improvement projects.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 3 years recent and varied experience in acute surgical speciality
- Level 2/3 critical care experience
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in managing or supervising a clinical team
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in 2 or more Trusts, or evidence of varied experience within 1 Trust
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria
- A professional role model. Practices according to policy and NMC Code
- Able to care effectively and compassionately for a group of patients if required
- Comfortable with challenging any poor practice
- Experienced in change implementation
