Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Pharmacy Assistant to join our excellent Pharmacy Team on the Hammersmith hospital site, which is part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The post will primarily be based in pharmacy stores. You will also be part of the busy Pharmacy Dispensary, Distribution teams, providing a high quality, patient focused dispensing and stock management service to the wards and clinics on the Hammersmith site. 

You will need good computer skills, be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and so excellent communication skills are essential. In addition you will have the opportunity to work towards an NVQ Level 2 (QCF) in Pharmacy Service Skills. 

Main duties of the job

  • Senior Pharmacy Assistants have a patient-centred approach, aim to deliver high standards of hospital pharmacy services, have a good understanding of the importance of medicines in patient care and have an awareness of the roles of multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Senior Pharmacy Assistants are a key member of the wider Pharmacy team in providing essential services and effective stock management.
  • The role is rotational, working within Dispensary and Stores/Distribution as per rota and/or discretion of the Chief Pharmacy Technician – Dispensary Services.

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in Maths and English (grade A-C)
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent e.g. Boots, Buttercups, NPA)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to work with computers
  • Experience working in a hospital or customer orientated environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with Automated Dispensing Systems (Robot)
  • Experience working in a community or hospital pharmacy, or dispensing GP practice
  • Experience using CMM system

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to work both alone and within a team
  • Good ability to organise and prioritise work
  • Able to recognise the limits of own competence and escalate to senior member of the team
  • Analytical ability for problem solving
Desirable criteria
  • A good understanding of all Microsoft Office programs
