Job overview

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. 

The successful candidate would be expected to develop a specialist interest in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Radiology  and integrate into our large tertiary referral HPB unit consisting of a team of 6 consultant radiologists. The post would entail extensive structured and supported exposure to predominately diagnostic abdominal cross sectional imaging techniques although CT and ultrasound interventional procedures would be included as would exposure to liver related interventional therapies such as TACE, SIRT and radiofrequency ablation. 

Previous exposure to HPB radiology would be an advantage but is not essential. On call commitments would be optional and applicants should hold or be within 9 months of obtaining their CCST.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate would develop a specialist interest in all aspects of diagnostic Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Radiology (HPB) in a leading and nationally recognised HPB unit.

The candidate would be tutored to actively participate in our nationally recognised regional HPB, pancreatitis, and liver transplantation multidisciplinary meetings. The role would include teaching radiologists in training and undergraduates, and participation in academic research and audit would be strongly encouraged. Protected academic time would be provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical:

·         Reporting complex, predominately HPB, abdominal radiology examinations

·         Active participation in multidisciplinary meetings relating to HPB radiology

·         Extensive involvement in all aspects of diagnostic HPB radiology with exposure to interventional HPB techniques if desired

·         Participating in the daily running of a large and busy tertiary referral diagnostic imaging department

·         Option to participate in general radiology in training on call rota if desired 

Administrative:

·         Organising and coordinating our weekly HPB radiologist in training teaching meeting

Research:

·         Participation in our active research projects, article publication and attendance at relevant academic meetings will be strongly encouraged

·         Opportunities to lead and develop new academic projects 

Teaching:

·         Teaching radiologists in training during their HPB radiology attachment

·         Involvement in undergraduate teaching 

Flexibility: 

In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend.  As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary Medical Qualification.
  • FRCR or equivalent qualification.
  • Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months
  • Applicants should hold or be within 9 months of obtaining their CCST

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good history & examination skills
  • Able to formulate a working diagnosis
  • Able to order appropriate investigations
  • Image interpretation relevant to practice
  • Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous exposure to HPB radiology as a radiologist in training is desirable but not essential

Management and Administration Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to run a service and participate in management process
  • Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce
  • Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues.
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance
Desirable criteria
  • Proven management and administration ability.
