Are you an Endoscopy nurse who is looking for a new challenge, who demonstrate effective and sustainable leadership and management skills?
Can you help us to deliver and develop a diverse range of endoscopic therapeutic interventions? If you are enjoying sharing your endoscopic knowledge by teaching and developing others, experienced, passionate, dynamic and forward thinking individual, we would like to hear from you.
Key areas of responsibility will be agreed with successful candidate when they start, such as responsible for supporting and developing the nursing team and the multidisciplinary teams in endoscopy.
You will have the opportunity to lead by example and support the safe delivery of individualized care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including endoscopic ablation of Barrett's esophagus using radiofrequency ablation (HALO) and Endo Bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS). We also offer a pleural day service, general anaesthetic sessions and a GI physiology service and capsule endoscopy.
Our three endoscopy departments have gained JAG accreditation. All our departments offer a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including:
- upper and lower GI endoscopy
- gastroscopy
- colonoscopy
- flexi sigmoidoscopy
- bronchoscopy
- ERCP
At St Mary’s we have four procedure rooms, with three at Hammersmith and two at Charing Cross (where plans are in place to develop a third).

We have successfully implemented an endoscopy nurse on-call service to improve patient’s outcome and meet the recommendations from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) upper gastrointestinal bleed guidance.
Main duties of the job
- To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision
- To assist the Endoscopy unit manager in leading the nursing team and deputise in their absence
- Monitor standards of nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them
- To respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.

Essential criteria
- Active NMC pin as a 1st level Registered Nurse
- Mentorship, teaching Qualification or relevant experience
- Relevant Specialist endoscopy course
Desirable criteria
- Recovery course
- Endoscopy Principles and Procedure course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience within the speciality or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
- Can undertake personal development review
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in endoscopy
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Full range of Endoscopy Therapeutic competencies. Organisation and management skills.
- IT skills including use of email and office packages
- Ability to problem solves.
Desirable criteria
- Competent and experience in ERCP and EUS procedures
