We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our busy tertiary level Neonatal Intensive Care team
At any one time there are 8-10 WTE ST1-8 paediatric/neonatal deanery trainees based on the unit. In addition, there are a number of Clinical Fellows, Research Fellows, MTIs and ANNPs contributing to the SHO rota (15 WTE) and Registrar rota (16-17 WTE). The current rota enables a Registrar/ANNP & ST1-3 for both Intensive Care, High Dependency and Special care and an allocated person for Transport. Paediatric cover is completely separate to this post

- Participating in middle grade medical rota (registrar ST4+ or equivalent) on the neonatal unit to include shifts on intensive care, high dependency, special care and conducting neonatal follow up clinics
- Depending on level of experience, the post-holder is also anticipated to work with SONeT Transfer team (Transport nurse +/- Transport consultant).
- Additional duties include supporting junior colleagues on the postnatal ward and with community reviews.
Necessary procedural skills include peripheral cannulation, central (umbilical and long line) and arterial lines, tracheal intubation, lumbar puncture and chest drain insertion.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.
Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.
Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)
Basic Salary – MT04 £61,825 Basic Salary – MT05 £70,425
Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5;
- Have a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training
- Hold relevant higher specialty exam (e.g FRCP, FRCA, FRCS)
- A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates they meet the criteria for progression (in line with the Curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainee)
Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.

- Applicants should have a minimum of 12 months experience working in a tertiary level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU
- At least 6 months experience working in the NHS within a paediatric or neonatal specialty

- Registrar level experience in a tertiary level NICU
- Registrar level neonatal transport experience
- Experience managing extremely preterm infants >22 weeks gestation
- Experience using high frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), inhaled nitric oxide and therapeutic hypothermia/cerebral function monitoring
Aptitudes and skills

- NLS (& APLS) provider or equivalent
- Proven ability to manage acute neonatal emergencies
- Competence in practical procedures (to include neonatal venepuncture, cannulation, umbilical and long line insertion, lumbar puncture, intubation – term/preterm and chest drain insertion
- Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
- Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
- Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients, carers and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
- Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively
- Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
- Competent IT skills and familiarity with NHS systems

- Undertaken an audit or quality improvement project relevant to neonatal medicine
- Interest or experience in research
- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including other members of the MDT
