Main duties of the job

Applicants are invited to apply for the posts above, to join the Women and Children’s Division at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The Division has been rated Good by the CQC and is part of Barts Health NHS Trust, providing Women and Children’s Services across East London.

The post holders will join the team of 18 Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultants, providing services to a multi-ethnic and diverse local population within Waltham Forest and Redbridge. This expanding team, with members who represent The Royal College and the London Deanery provide for approximately 4,000 births per year within a busy maternity service.

This is an exciting time to join the team at Whipps Cross University Hospital which has completed a large Barts Charity transformational and investment programme and be involved in the planning of the new hospital. The roles will also provide the opportunity to work across Barts Health with MDT colleagues from The Royal London Hospital and Newham University Hospital.

Person specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practise*
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration*
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)*
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months
Desirable criteria
  • Further higher degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MD, MSc, PhD)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of management and administration experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
  • Enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure
  • Prepared to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes of the hospital
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working at consultant level in the NHS

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • Experience of managing High risk pregnancies
  • Able to manage gynaecological emergencies – including laparoscopic procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Gynaecological scanning
