This Clinical Fellow position presents an exceptional opportunity to join the Male Genital Oncology and Reconstruction (MGOR) service at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, a leading institution in the treatment of penile cancer in Europe. The fellow will actively contribute to the management of penile cancer and complex genital reconstruction. The role demands a strong dedication to clinical excellence and research, with a focus on translating laboratory findings into innovative treatments to enhance patient outcomes. You will work alongside a world-renowned multidisciplinary team of experts in penile cancer, reconstructive surgery, and urological oncology. The successful candidate will be integral to ongoing research projects, clinical trials, and the continued growth of the MGOR service. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the surgical educational activities at the Christie. The job is a full-time post (10 programmed activities per week).

The Clinical Fellow will primarily focus on the care of patients with penile cancer and the performance of genital reconstruction. This role involves managing all stages of penile cancer treatment, from pre-malignant conditions through to radical surgery and oncoplastic reconstruction, including penile prosthesis implantation. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the fellow will be heavily involved in both translational and clinical research, working to translate laboratory innovations into real-world treatments that improve patient outcomes. The fellow will gain hands-on experience with advanced therapies such as CO2 laser treatment, penile-preserving surgeries, dynamic sentinel node biopsies, and complex lymph node dissections. Additional duties include leading research projects, contributing to multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and participating in high-impact clinical trials. Teaching and mentoring junior medical staff, as well as engaging in clinical audits and governance, will also be key aspects of the role.

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.

We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

Close affiliations with institutions like the University of Manchester will offer excellent opportunities for academic growth and career advancement.The department consists of two inpatient wards (38 beds), an Oncology Critical Care Unit, 5 operating theatres, and the Integrated Procedures Unit.
