Main duties of the job

We are currently looking to a recruit an established Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our proactive, committed and dynamic Team of practitioners in Trauma and orthopaedics (T&O) Service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

We are seeking to expand our team further within the field of trauma and orthopaedics to enable a 24/7 service to improve continuity and quality of our patients care; continuing to deliver prompt admissions and management, improved patient experience, prompt discharging resulting in a reduced length of stay.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

WHAT THE ROLE ENTAILS 
The Advanced Clinical Practitioner will…

•    Need to apply all pillars of advanced clinical Practice within their role. 

•    Practice as a core member of the Medical Team, take responsibility for the medical management of a defined patient or client group under guidance of the Consultant responsible for the care episode.

•    Be confident working autonomously and competent reviewing T&O inpatient; instigating management plans based on clinical assessment, including non-medical prescribing. 

•    Apply their knowledge and expertise of T&O management.

•    Provide specialist advice, education and support to our T&O patients and their carers, trainee colleagues and other health care professionals.

•    Practice clinically within agreed care protocols by the Designated Medical Lead / Practitioner. 

•    Be proactive in maintaining own competency and contribute to clinical governance.

•    Advise and support the Care Group management team regarding overall service strategy and future development of the service.

•    Work across professional, departmental and Trust boundaries as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 

To be successful in your application you will need to demonstrate you have successfully completed a Level 7 master’s degree in advanced clinical Practice which must include non-medical prescribing. 
Have a minimum of 2 years secondary care expertise in relevant speciality, i.e. Trauma & Orthopaedics. 
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and conscientious practitioner with strong leadership capabilities who enjoys working within a dynamic and fast paced environment.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of NMC / HCPC register
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice –full master (180 credits) Or equivalency pathway –the portfolio route –recognition by HEE centre of Advanced practice, via the supported portfolio route. Including NMP where professional registration permits. Or have formally credentialed on a nationally recognised specialty specific Advanced Clinical Practice programme for example FICM or RCEM EM ACP
  • Speciality specific post registration qualification or training
  • Provide evidence of Leading learning in practice
  • Leadership and Management qualification
  • Able to develop and implement policy, guidelines and projects from initiation to completion
  • Completion of IR(ME)R Training
  • Extensive post registration experience in a relevant speciality
  • Experience of Service Development
Desirable criteria
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
  • ALS instructor
  • EPLS/PALS provider
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
