Job overview

SCM is recognised as the gold standard of care for people with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). It is evidenced based and recommended in NICE guidelines. SCM has been selected by the trust as the approach to implement within the personality disorder pathway.. This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop specific skills in line with evidence based treatment and be involved in providing support for service user’s to recover, develop autonomy and no longer require secondary mental health services.

As well as direct face to face contact with the service user, and group work, it is expected that the post holder will be able to engage with the wider community system (A&E, police, inpatient and community settings) and support them to deliver evidence based practice.

Supervision is an integral part of this job you will be supported with regular access to supervision on a consistent basis. Clinical supervision will be provided by the PDMCN Specialist Practitioners within the PDMCN HUB including senior Clinical Leads.

It is desirable to have some knowledge of SCM and also an interest in working with people with personality disorder.

Main duties of the job

Working for the local CMHT, clinically supervised by the Personality Disorder Managed Clinical  Network, to provide high quality interventions for service user’s who have a diagnosis/present with difficulties associated with the diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD)

You will be aligned to work within a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) providing Structure Clinical Management (SCM) for a caseload of service user’s. You will facilitate and lead groups to support the recovery of service users.

Promote positive attitudes towards service users with complex needs by providing a responsive and non-stigmatising service, which will enhance inclusion and deliver better outcomes. 

To undertake mental health assessments including risk assessments and be  proficient in referring to other clinicians within the service or referring to other services/agencies where necessary.

Providing a communication structure between GP’s, IAPT and secondary MH services in LSCFT, non-statutory service to ensure the highest possible standards of patient care  
 
To provide advice and support for the CMHT Multidisciplinary Team to deliver the highest standards of care for service user’s with a diagnosis of EUPD.  This may include joint working at times.

You will receive regular clinical supervision from the PDMCN Specialist Practitioners and PDMCN Clinical Lead.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Core Mental Health Professional Qualification (e.g. RMN, SW, OT)
Desirable criteria
  • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching/supervision qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In-depth knowledge of mental health problems.
  • Knowledge around a variety of personality presentations.
  • In-depth knowledge of issues that impact upon people with mental health problems.
  • Detailed knowledge of the impact of risk and protective factors that affect people with mental health problems
  • In-depth knowledge of diversity and anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Working knowledge of the range of treatments available for people with personality disorder

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification experience of clinical work and assessment with service users experiencing a range of mental health problems.
  • Experience of working with people who have a diagnosis of personality disorder
  • Experience of risk assessment and management
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience of multi-agency working
  • Experience of working in and/or knowledge of community mental health service provision

Skills

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and communication skills both oral and written.
  • Time management and caseload management skills.
  • An ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to work collaboratively with a range of agencies.
