Band: 6, £37,338 - £44,962 Per annum, pro rata if part time

Hours: Part time, 30 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working 

The Children’s Community nursing team is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Child Branch nurse with acute nursing experience to join our friendly and dynamic team to cover maternity leave.

The Children’s Community Nursing Service which is based in the Hospital is well established and aims to facilitate seamless transition of neonates and children from hospital into their homes. Our philosophy is to deliver the highest quality, evidence based, and family centred care to our children and their families both in hospital and in patient’s homes.

The individual applying for this post will have experience in the nursing care of children from admission through to discharge. They will be adept in the co-ordination of care and discharge planning processes. In addition they will also be motivated and committed to continuing professional development and demonstrate excellent communication, role modelling and leadership skills.

The post holder will ideally have some experience of nursing children in the community and will be competent in the care of central lines.  A clean UK driving licence is essential.

The post holder will ensure that they are aware of all relevant issues relating to Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and Clinical Effectiveness and that they carry out their duties in accordance with these frameworks and standards.
They will work as a skilled member of the children’s nursing team, providing a high standard of holistic family centred care to both the children and their families, and will have a duty to continually develop their knowledge and skills to ensure that their care is evidenced based best practice.

Qualifications and knowledge

  • Degree level study in healthcare
  • Level 3 Safeguarding training
  • Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor Degree level or above programme of study in Paediatric Oncology Nursing

  • V300 Independent and supplementary Nurse Prescribing
  • Advanced communications skills training or prepared to work towards

Experience

  • Variety of experience of nursing children in an acute setting post registration
  • Ability to work effectively as a lone worker, as a member of the nursing team and together with the multi-disciplinary team
  • An understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young peoples
  • Able to communicate effectively with professionals, children and families
  • Experience in; audit, research, development and review of clinical policies, risk management, teaching and assessment

Skills

  • Able to assess, plan, implement evaluate and deliver holistic basic nursing care
  • Ability to communicate with both the child, their family and the MDT

  • To be able to demonstrate ability to provide evidence-based care
  • Knowledge of/ adherence to NMC The Code
